As a Pagan religion, Witchcraft (Wicca) survived the Romans and then all but vanished under the pervasive Christian influence. The country of Sussex was the last to give up the "Old Ways", but it was also here that the first efforts to revive them began - in the middle of the 20th century, soon after the old Witchcraft Act was finally repealed. At last, it had been acknowledged that there was no connection to black magic or satanism.
