British Witchcraft

The Supression and Re-emergence of the Old Religion

As a Pagan religion, Witchcraft / Wicca survived the Romans, and then all but vanished under the pervasive Christian influence in England. The County of Sussex was the last to give up the “Old Ways”, but it was also here that the first efforts to revive them began – in the middle of the 20th century, soon after the old Witchcraft Act was finally repealed. At last, it had been acknowledged that there was no connection to black magic or satanism.

Ralph Harvey was one of the early movers in resurrecting traditional witchcraft, and in modernising it sufficiently to make it possible for present-day Witches to practice meaningfully.

Ralph’s coven, “The Order of Artemis”, has given birth to over 200 new covens that encompass the world, while Ralph himself has initiated over 100 priestesses.

In graphic detail, Ralph tells the moving story of the long, slow, near-death of Witchcraft and the persecution of its practitioners, followed by the uplifting and joyous story of the religion’s re-emergence in recent years.
